Caroline's Story
Times are tough. We are in the middle of a coronavirus pandemic. Much of the world has stopped. But, unfortunately, not even a global pandemic can stop breast cancer.
Breast cancer continues to affect hundreds of thousands of women and men each year in the United States. And increasingly, many of the newly diagnosed are young women who have their whole lives in front of them.
Last year, I was one of those young women, diagnosed with aggressive Triple Negative Invasive Ductal Breast Cancer in May 2019, at age 39. I am fortunate that my cancer was detected early. For the last year, I've had ongoing treatment, including four surgeries and three different chemotherapy medications. And I hope to be able to move on to radiation and more surgeries soon. I try to remain optimistic and my long-term outlook is fairly good.
This is in large part due to the hard work that the Susan G. Komen organization has done since 1982: funding a wide-variety of breast cancer-related research, providing screening, diagnostic, and treatment care, creating a supportive community, and advocating for more research funding and access to care. Komen's extensive efforts have improved breast cancer treatments drastically over the years and I am especially grateful to be benefitting from the actions of those who came before me.
For some with breast cancer, treatment options are quite limited. And there is currently no cure for the more advanced metastatic breast cancer. But with our help, Komen can fund and advocate for research that will expand treatments.
Please consider supporting me and the countless others who will benefit from the More Than Pink Walk and the greater Komen organization. Here's how you can help:
· Please consider making a tax-deductible donation-big or small-to support a brighter future for those diagnosed with breast cancer.
· Join me and Team 55378008 for this year's virtual More Than Pink Walk on Sunday, August 23rd, 2020. Join me in person for a socially distant walk or enjoy a stroll around your own neighborhood.
· Participate from the sidelines by sending your messages of encouragement.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting me!
Lots of Love,
Caroline
